The Pittsburgh chapter of the American Marketing Association held its first ever Marketer of the Year Awards ceremony Friday, December 12 at LeMont and presented Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens with its Grand Marketer of the Year Award for 2007.
"Phipps Conservatory is thrilled to receive the Grand Marketer of the Year award from the AMA," said Richard Piacentini, Executive Director of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. "It is an unexpected honor to be recognized among some of the illustrious brands that call Pittsburgh home. Every employee and volunteer at Phipps is involved in marketing Chihuly at Phipps: Gardens and Glass in some way and the success of the show is a testament to the teamwork required to execute what has been a five-year project. We are optimistic that 2008 will be another banner year for Phipps and other cultural destinations in our city."
Winners of Pittsburgh's only results-based marketing competition were recognized in 12 categories for their marketing excellence and effectiveness. The 10 finalists and Marketers of the Year in their respective industries are:

Three local and legendary brands were honored and inducted into the AMA Pittsburgh Hall of Fame for their unique and impressive marketing impact throughout western Pennsylvania - if not the world: H.J. Heinz Company, Iron City Brewing and M.J. Delligatti, inventor of McDonald's Big Mac sandwich. In addition, Duquesne University's Dr. Audrey Guskey was honored with the Distinguished Educator Award.
"The event was a huge success," said Stephen Wayhart, President of the Pittsburgh AMA. "We are honored to celebrate such phenomenal marketers in the Pittsburgh region and to shine a positive light on the marketing profession."
