When years of teaching college led to burnout, Dr. Ann Clark decided to find a new career. After venturing away from the helping profession she had trained for, she quickly realized she had to find a way to help people while satisfying her “entrepreneurial spirit” she always knew she had.

In the summer of 1983, from the desk in her La Jolla, California condo, Ann Clark Associates was founded. Dr. Clark has led the organization through its successful transformation from a regional concern to ACI, a worldwide specialty benefits corporation. ACI provides services to public and private employers such as Bosch, Mercury Insurance, and San Diego’s own Luce Forward Hamilton and Scripps. ACI has enjoyed organic growth year over year, rather than growth through acquisition. “It’s all about the relationship we have with our clients that makes the difference”, says Ann Clark during an interview recently.
